Can options premiums be used for understanding market trends?
Q. can options premiums be used for understanding market trends? as being too expensive or looking cheap?
Asked by amr a - Mon Feb 25 12:38:40 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Not really. If there are more call options outstanding that put options then that means the market feels that the trend is upward but if there are more put options than call options outstanding then the market feels that the trend is going to go down. Option premiums are dependant on how in/out/at-the-money it is currently at.

How does the market trends influence the price of the stocks?
Q. Trends in the economic markets influence the price of stocks in the stock exchange. How does this happen?

A. The price of stock are influenced by many factors, one of them is the trend of the market. If a market is growing and a company see that it can satisfy this growing the it can expect to increase its sales more quickly than the cost. This increase the benefits. The owners of the companies and investors (speculative and no speculative) see the possibilities of obtain for them this benefits and they wish to get the paper. Many investors demanding papers of one company increase the value of the paper. Now suppose that a big number of companies which quote in Wall Street expect to obtain big benefits; the price of all these papers will increase and finally will increase the indicators of WS: NASDAQ, S&P, etc.

How do you find the percentage of increase or decrease in stock market trends?
Q. I am doing a school project on the stock market, and one of the requirements is to calculate the percentage of increase or decrease of stock market prices over a few Fridays. Is there a possible function or formula to use on Excel or something to find this?
Asked by Em - Fri Oct 5 09:00:43 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It's a very simple calculation. You find the difference between the latest price and the base price. The base price is the price at the beginning of your trend. Then you divide the difference by the base price. For example, the latest price of the stock is $25. The price at the beginning of the period you wish to compare was $20. The difference in the price is $5. Divide $5 by $20 and you get .25. there has been a 25 percent increase in the price over the period. Suppose the earlier price was $32, the difference is -$7. Dividing -$7 by $32 gives you -.21875 or a 21.875 percent decline. Another way is to divide the latest price by the earlier price and then deduct 1 from the result: $25 / $20 = 1.25 1.25 - 1 = .25 or 25 percent $25 / $3 [cont.]

A. Subscribe to Business 2.0 magazine -- they have lots of great articles on emerging market trends and gaps in the Web. Afterall, this is their focus. In their recent issue, they had a great feature on the next "disruptors" -- startups that can potentially become big. You can also learn a lot from Michael Arrington's Tech Crunch blog -- he's a former VC but is now concentrating on writing about the tech sector

Asked by Edward M - Thu Nov 16 11:32:40 2006 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I don't know what exactly you are asking, but I am assuming you are asking about treatments and diagnostic practices. The treatments are the same, colon resection, chemo, radiation, and the like, but the diagnostic practices are evolving drastically. In addition to the wonderful colonoscopy, there are new genetic tests available. You can have blood tests and genetic counseling done to see if you have the gene that is a marker for colon cancer. If you have the gene (or don't for that matter), it doesn't mean that you have or don't have cancer, just that you are much more likely to get it.

Also, every year since 1950 that January showed a net loss for the month, the year was either flat, or a bear market...Without exception! Again, these are statistics taken straight from the stock trader's almanac.
